Dan Kapsch was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Ryan Balent went 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI for South Plainfield (17-10), which erupted for six runs in the top of the second inning. Chris Loniewski went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, while Kevin Penny added two RBI.
South Plainfield plays top-seeded Colonia in the final on Thursday.
Peter Lawrence scored the lone run for Millburn (14-16) and Keigo Fujita went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

South Plainfield Beats Millburn, 8-1, in Sectional Semifinals
By TAPinto South Plainfield StaffMILLBURN, NJ -- Third-seeded South Plainfield scored six runs in the second inning and went on to an 8-1 victory over second-seeded Millburn in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA North 2, Group 3 baseball tournament on Tuesday.
South Plainfield (17-10) advances to meet top-seeded Colonia in the sectional final on Thursday in Colonia.
Although the two teams are both in the Greater Middlesex Conference and only separated by a few miles, South Plainfield and Colonia have not played each other since the Tigers eliminated Colonia in the quarterfinal round of last year's sectional tournament in South Plainfield.
Junior left-hander Aiden McCarthy pitched a four-hitter for South Plainfield. McCarthy struck out six batters and walked one. The run against him was unearned.
South Plainfield collected eight singles in its six-run second inning. Dan Kapsch led off with a single to left-center. Lorenzo Fuscoletti singled to center. Chris Loniewski then reached on a bunt single to load the bases with nobody out. Ryan Balent followed with a line-drive RBI single to left field to give South Plainfield a 1-0 lead.
After a pair of strikeouts, the Tigers scored five runs after two were out. Nick Irizarry beat out a chopper for an RBI single and a 2-0 lead. McCarthy's RBI single to right field made it 3-0. Dom Massaro hit a high chopper to the left side and beat the throw to first base as two more runs came in to make it 5-0. Kapsch's second single of the inning, an RBI grounder up the middle, gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead.
In addition to Kapsch, Massaro, Loniewski and Balent finished with two hits apiece for South Plainfield.
Keigo Fujita had two hits three at-bats for Millburn (14-16).

It's playoff time, and South Plainfield had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Millburn Millers on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won four games in a row.
South Plainfield's win bumped their record up to 17-9. As for Millburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-16.

Going 2-for-4 in the win were Dan Kapsch (two RBIs, run), Dom Massaro (RBI) and Ryan Balent (two runs, RBI). Chris Loniewski had a 2-for-3 day (two runs, walk) and Kevin Penny double and chipped in two RBIs.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ -- At the conclusion of its 8-1 victory over Millburn on Tuesday, the South Plainfield baseball team celebrated not only the Tigers' return to the NJSIAA North 2, Group 3 championship game, but a huge milestone achieved by their leadoff batter.
Junior center fielder Dom Massaro went 2-for-4 with a run batted in in South Plainfield's semifinal win at Millburn, giving Massaro 100 career hits.
The milestone comes 33 years after Dom's father, Tom Massaro and uncle, Dan Massaro, were selected as All-Middlesex County players for South Plainfield. Tom Massaro batted .468 with 24 RBI and 27 stolen bases for then-head coach Steve Novak's team in 1992.
