South Plainfield 12, Monroe 3: Andrew Bena had a big offensive game going 3-for-5 with four RBIs as South Plainfield took the first game of a GMC Red Division series.
The host Tigers (8-7) led 4-1 and broke it open with six runs in the fifth inning. Three other players had multi-hits in the win – Dom Massaro (2-for-4, RBI, double, three runs, BB), Chris Loniewski (2-for-3, two runs, two BBs) and Andrew Bruns (2-for-4, double, RBI, two runs). Anthony Cicenia singled, walked twice and scored twice.
Aiden McCarthy walked twice and drove in two runs, while picking up the win by allowing three runs in six innings with six strikeouts. Jayden Jimenez threw a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Justin Mangano and Ben Faigin doubled with RBIs for Monroe (7-8) and Robert Profaci also drove in a run.

Bena powers South Plainfield past Monroe
Andrew Bena went 3-for-5 with four RBIs to lead South Plainfield to a 12-3 victory over Monroe in South Plainfield.
South Plainfield (8-7) snapped its two-game skid with a dominant offensive performance, scoring three runs in the first inning and breaking the game open with a six-run fifth.
Dom Massaro scored three runs and went 2-for-4 with a double for South Plainfield. Chris Loniewski added two hits and scored twice.
Aiden McCarthy earned the win on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while allowing three runs on five hits.
Justin Mangano led Monroe (7-8) with a double and an RBI. Ben Faigin added a double and drove in a run.
Siddharth Desai took the loss for Monroe, striking out three batters over 4.1 innings while allowing four earned runs.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — Andrew Bena drove in four runs to lead South Plainfield to a 12-3 baseball victory over Monroe on Tuesday.
Bena went 3-for-5 with a double for South Plainfield (8-7), which started fast with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Senior left-hander Aiden McCarthy pitched six innings for the win. He struck out six batters, walked one and allowed five hits. Jayden Jimenez pitched a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts to close it out.
Dom Massaro went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Massaro came into the game with a batting average over .600, so his 2-for-4 performance actually lowered his average.
Andrew Burns was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Tigers. Chris Loniewski went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
South Plainfield has a return engagement with Monroe on the road on Thursday.
