Jordan Hamberg's three-run double erased a 2-1 deficit in the top of the seventh inning and lifted the No. 14 Tigers to a quarterfinal round victory. 
 

Billy Keane earned the victory with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. South Plainfield's starting pitcher Rob Gonzalez scattered seven hits and struck out four over 5 2/3 innings. 
 

Hamberg, who went 3-for-3, gave South Plainfield a 1-0 lead with an RBI single. Sixth-seeded Colonia scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase the deficit. Frank Lehmann ignited the rally with an RBI single, while Anthoy DeMao capped it with a run-scoring fielder's choice ground out. 
 

Keane finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. 
 

South Plainfield advanced to the semi-finals, where it will face seventh-seeded Old Bridge, a 1-0 winner over St. Joseph (Met.).

Jordan Hamberg hit a bases clearing three-RBI double to center field in the top of the seventh inning to propel 14th-seeded South Plainfield past sixth-seeded Colonia, 4-2, in the quarterfinals of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament in Colonia.

Chris Shine led-off frame with a walk and Billy Keane then hit a double to put runners at second and third. After an intentional walk to TJ Massaro, Hamberg then hit the eventual game-winning hit.

Hamberg finished 3-for-3 on the day with four RBI while Keane went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. He also earned the win with 1 1/3 shutout innings of relief on the mound, giving up just one hit.

Frank Lehmann went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the way for the Patriots.
With the win, South Plainfield will face seventh-seeded Old Bridge in the semifinals on Saturday at Middlesex County College.

Chris Shine hurled a complete-game shutout, striking out 10 and allowing just one hit while throwing 102 pitches as the 14th-seeded Tigers advanced to Wednesday’s quarterfinals against sixth-seeded Colonia. That game will be played 4 p.m. at North Brunswick's Community Park.

Colonia swept the regular-season series with South Plainfield, wining 1-0 and 8-4.

South Plainfield scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings off South Brunswick ace Jacob Ciccone, who went the distance, allowing two earned runs on nine hits and one walk. Ciccone also struck out four while throwing 108 pitches.

Connor Adams and Mike Marrero (two runs) each went 2-for-4 for South Plainfield, while teammates Rob Gonzalez and Billy Keane each had an RBI. Sammy Nieves went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Nic DeLaCruz had South Brunswick’s lone hit. Teammate Felix Quinones drew a walk. The Vikings did not have another baserunner.

South Plainfield (16-9) has won seven in a row.

Chris Shine threw a complete game one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk to push 14th-seeded South Plainfield to a 3-0 win over third-seeded South Brunswick in the first round of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament at Rowland Park in Cranbury.

Shine's sole conceded hit of the game came in the first inning, on a single by Nick Delacruz.
Michael Marrero got the Tigers offense going early, by hitting a single in the second at-bat of the game. Later in the inning, Billy Keane belted out a double to center field to drive Marrero in for the first run of the game.

Rob Gonzalez kept the scoring going in the next inning, by hitting an RBI single. Sammy Nieves brought Gonzalez in for a run when he hit a single in the fifth inning.

The victory gives South Plainfield it's seventh straight victory.

Jacob Ciccone threw a complete game for South Brunswick, striking out four and conceding two earned runs.

South Plainfield will face sixth-seeded Colonia in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday.

Victorious hurler Billy Keane went the distance, fanning 12 and allowing one earned run to help the 14th-seeded Tigers win a league tournament preliminary round game.

Keane helped his own cause, going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Batterymate Nico Vasquez singled, doubled and drove home a run.

Mike Stanczak went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for South Plainfield, while teammate Chris Born went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Sophomore Jordan Hamberg, a recent jayvee callup who was making his third start, delivered a clutch two-RBI single in the third inning when the Tigers scored five times. Vasquez had an RBI double during that rally.

South Plainfield (15-9) will face third-seeded South Brunswick on Monday in the next round.

The Tigers have won six straight.

South Plainfield erased an 8-4 deficit by scoring seven runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Connor Adams and Mike Stanczak scored two runs each for South Plainfield.

Robbie Holmes hit a home run and drove in three runs for Bernards, while Ryan Falduto and Tommy Hosbach had two RBI each.

Chris Shine went 2-for-4 with a triple and one RBI to lead South Plainfield to a 4-2 win over Montgomery in South Plainfield.

South Plainfield led 2-1 after two innings, and then added on two more runs in the third inning.

Austin Feltham picked up the win in five innings on the mound, while Chris Born and Billy Keane had one hit and one RBI each.

Ryan McKenna had two hits for Montgomery while Palmer Smith had two runs.

Chris Shine hurled a complete-game no-hitter, striking out 14, as the South Plainfield pitching staff extended its scoreless streak to 22 innings dating back to a 2-1 loss to Woodbridge.

Over the last three games, during which the Tigers have not allowed a run, South Plainfield also had a complete-game no-hitter against a strong-hitting Metuchen club.

Shine walked two and hit a batsman. The last pitch he threw was his 110th of the game.

The Tigers played small ball to manufacture runs. Mike Stanczak walked, took second on a sacrifice and scored the game'S first run in the fourth inning on an infield error.

Catcher Nico Vasquez doubled, took third on a sacrifice and scored on Connor Adams’ RBI.

South Plainfield improved to 11-9 and has won eight of its last 10.

Rob Gonzalez combined with Brody Donovan on a seven-inning no-hitter as the Tigers tamed the red-hot bats of the Bulldogs, who had an eight-game winning streak snapped.

During that winning streak, Metuchen (11-5) scored 88 runs, an average of 11 per game.

Gonzalez hurled five and two thirds innings before reaching the NJSIAA maximum 110 pitches. He struck out eight, walked five and hit a batsman. Donovan hurled the final one and a third innings.

Billy Keane went 2-for-3 and Ashwin deGroot went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI. Gonzalez helped his own cause with a two-run homer in the third when South Plainfield scored six times to build a 7-0 lead.

South Plainfield (10-9) rebounded from a series sweep, having been outscored 5-2 in back-to-back losses to Woodbridge.

Connor Adams delivered two RBI. Chris Shine scored twice. DeGroot crossed home three times.

Winning pitcher Joe Muccilli scattered six hits over seven innings as the Barrons limited the Tigers to one run for the second straight day to complete a series sweep.

South Plainfield (9-9, 6-6) entered the series on a five-game winning streak, during which the Tigers scored 44 runs, an average of 8.8 per contest.

The Barrons (12-5, 5-4) scored in the fourth inning to forge a 1-1 tie and plated the winning run in the sixth.

Woodbridge was outhit 6-2. Michael Medvetz and Tom O’Halloran each scored a run for the Barrons, while teammate Jacob Kreusch delivered an RBI as a pinch hitter. Darren Gonzalez and O’Halloran had Woodbridge’s hits.

Hard-luck losing pitcher Billy Keane fanned seven and walked three. Both runs scored against him were earned.

Michael Marrero went 3-for-4 for South Plainfield, while teammates Mike Stanczak, Niko Vasquez and Chris Born each had a hit. TJ Massaro scored the Tigers’ lone run.

Muccilli walked two and fanned two while throwing 97 pitches.

Woodbridge has won six of its last eight.

Joe Muccilli pitched a six-hitter and allowed one run while striking out two and walking two to lead Woodbridge to a 2-1 victory against South Plainfield in South Plainfield.

Tom Ohalloran and Michael Medvetz added a run apiece and Jacob Kreusch knocked in a run for Woodbridge.

Robert Nunez improved his personal record to 5-0 while snapping South Plainfield’s winning streak at five games.

Nunez allowed just two hits over six innings. He fanned five and walked three while outdueling Chris Shine.

Woodbridge took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. After Carlos Marte doubled and the dangerous Mike Medvetz, who entered the contest batting .500 with a team-leading 21 hits, walked, Darren Gonzalez delivered a single to left, which was mishandled, allowing Marte and Medvetz to score.

South Plainfield cut the deficit in half in the top of the sixth on Rob Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly.

Medvetz belted his team-leading fourth homer of the season in the bottom of the inning to provide an insurance run for reliever Joe Muccilli, who hurled a scoreless seventh for the save.

Woodbridge (11-5 overall, 5-4 division) is now tied for second place in the division in the loss column with North Brunswick and Sayreville.

South Plainfield fell to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in the division.

Robert Nunez allowed just two hits over six innings to out-duel Chris Shine and lift Woodbridge to a 3-1 victory over South Plainfield in Woodbridge.

Nunez (5-0) struck out five and walked three to earn the victory before Joe Muccilli pitched a scoreless seventh to earn a save.

Shine pitched a four-hitter for South Plainfield, striking out six and walking three. He allowed two unearned runs in the first when a single by Darren Gonzalez was mishandled, allowing both runs to score. Woodbridge's other run came on Michael Medvetz's solo home run in the seventh.

Victorious hurler Jose Hernandez scattered four hits and walked two over six innings. He threw an economical 75 pitches.

Gonzalez tossed a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts to preserve the shutout.

Paramus was outhit 6-5. The Tigers scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Both teams are 9-7.

Michael Stanczak went 2-for-4 with his second two-home run game of the season.

Stanczak's first blast tied the game in the fourth and his other round-tripper put the contest away in the seventh.

Chris Born’s RBI single, which plated a runner who reached on an error, enabled South Plainfield to take a 3-2 lead in the sixth.

Middlesex (13-2), which received an RBI from Jarrett May, had its winning streak snapped at 13 games.

Austin Feltham (four innings) and Brody Donovan (three frames) combined on an eight-hitter for the resurgent Tigers (8-7), who have won four straight. The duo combined to fan five and walk three while allowing one earned run.

Connor Adams went 3-for-4 for South Plainfield, while teammate Rob Gonzalez doubled twice. Ashwin deGroot doubled and scored two runs for the Tigers. Michael Marrero contributed a double and a run scored to the win.

The Tigers won their third straight and completed a series sweep of the Chiefs, who scored five runs in the seventh inning to make the outcome interesting.

Piscataway was outhit 12-10 and benefited from five South Plainfield errors. The Tigers scored four runs in the first and three more runs in the third to build a 7-2 lead.

Connor Adams, Chris Shine and Ashwin DeGroot had two hits apiece for South Plainfield. Mike Stanczak, Billy Keane, Adams and Shine each had an RBI. Chris Born plated two runs. The Tigers stranded 10 runners.

Ro Morris and Jordan Brown each had two hits for the Chiefs. Six teammates had one hit apiece.

South Plainfield broke open a scoreless game in the top of the eighth inning with two outs. The Tigers (6-7 overall, 5-4 in GMC White) scored two runs on an error from a Mike Stanczak hard-hit ground ball.

 

South Plainfield added another run on an error and two insurance runs on a base hit from Ashwin DeGroot. In the bottom of the eighth, No. 7 Piscataway (7-4, 5-2) scored twice highlighted by a triple from Matt Peterson.

 

Both starters threw gems as Chris Shine earned the win by allowing two hits in seven innings with 10 strikeouts, three walks and one hit batter. Jayson Mahmood took the loss despite allowing no earned runs in 7 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts, four hits and two walks.

Chris Shine struck out 10 and walked three while conceding three hits and no runs in seven innings as South Plainfield took a 5-2 extra innings win over Piscataway in Piscataway.

The game went scoreless for seven innings. South Plainifield's offense sparked in the top of the eighth inning to score five runs.

Ashwin deGroot drove in three runs for the Tigers, while Rob Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Michael Marrero struck out one and conceded two hits in one inning of relief.

Jason Mahmood struck out eight while conceding four hits in seven innings on the mound for Piscataway.
