Patrick Boyle pitched a six-hitter as third-seeded South Plainfield defeated 11th-seeded St. Joseph (Met.), 6-1, in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament quarterfinals in North Brunswick.Boyle (6-1), struck out five, walked two and allowed two earned runs for South Plainfield. Taylor Born was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI and AJ Celentano went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Rob Eggert was 1-for-2 with two runs.
Brandon Bielak hit a three-run home run for St. Joseph and Anthony Teixeira was 3-for-4 with a run.
