Mark Tomei keyed a six-run second inning with a two-run homer while Quinn Cochrane, A.J. Celentano and Ryan Marcoux delivered consecutive, run-scoring singles in a five-run fifth to power South Plainfield (9-6) at the GMC Autism Awareness Day in North Brunswick. Dan Hansen went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI while Steve Petriello also doubled home a run for South Plainfield. Nick DeMarco (1-0) earned the victory with three innings of relief. Trailing 9-1 Iselin Kennedy (2-11) jumped back into the contest with seven runs in the third inning as Emil Kranz cracked a two-run double and Adonis Hernandez followed with a three-run homer.

HNT Baseball Roundup: South Plainfield battles back to top Mustangs

Junior catcher Stephen Petriello went 2-for-3 with a double, homer and three RBI to lead the South Plainfield High School baseball team to a 16-12 victory over J.F. Kennedy in Saturday's Greater Middlesex Conference Autism Awareness Day at North Brunswick Community Park.
The Tigers (9-6) raced out to a 9-1 lead, but the Mustangs (3-11) scored seven times in the third inning, closing the gap to one run. Adonis Hernandez followed Emil Krantz's two-run double with a three-run homer to cap the rally.
South Plainfield rebuilt its lead with five runs in the fifth. Quinn Cochrane (2-for-5 with three RBI) and A.J. Celentano fueled the outburst with RBI singles.
Dan Hansen went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.

Mark Tomei went 3-for-4 with a double and scored twice for South Plainfield (8-5) in South Plainfield. Dan Hansen (4-1) pitched the first five innings and aided his cause by singling in a run in the fifth. Stephen Petriello also had a run-scoring single for South Plainfield while Brandon Downes went 2-for-4. Somerville (5-4) scored all four of its runs in the fourth after South Plainfield had taken a 5-0 lead as Tim Laub singled home a run and scored on a wild pitch.

Dan Hansen drove in two runs while Mark Tomei and Ryan Hutchison each had two hits and an RBI for South Plainfield (7-5) in Colonia. Andrew Neich had three RBI and homered for the second day in a row for Colonia (4-7).

SOUTH PLAINFIELD 6, COLONIA 4:

The Tigers scored twice in the fifth inning to erase a 4-3 deficit. They added an insurance run in the sixth.
Andrew Niech singled and drove home three runs for the Patriots. Mark Tomei and Ryan Hutchison each went 2-for-4 for the Tigers. Dan Hansen contributed two RBI to the win.
Hansen earned the win in relief, scattering two hits and fanning three over three innings.
