Game # 1 South Plainfield 2, JFK Iselin 1

South Plainfield 2, J.F. Kennedy 1:
 
Rob Gonzalez hurled a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 14 and walking two while leading the Tigers to a season-opening win.
 
He outdueled Zack Schneider, who allowed five hits, fanned eight, walked one and yielded one earned run over six frames.
 
South Plainfield scored both its runs in the first inning. Connor Adams and Mike Marrero each crossed home. Chris Shine, who went 2-for-2 for the Tigers, delivered an RBI.
 
Schneider had J.F. Kennedy's lone hit and Mike Hein scored the Mustangs' only run in the sixth inning.
 
Adams, TJ Massaro and Mike Stanczak each contributed one hit to the victory.

Iselin Kennedy (1) at South Plainfield (2) - Baseball

Rob Gonzalez pitched a one-hitter with two walks and 14 strikeouts to lift South Plainfield to a 2-1 victory over Iselin Kennedy in South Plainfield.

Chris Shine had two singles with an RBI and Connor Adams and Michael Marrero each had a runs scored for South Plainfield, which led 2-0 at the end of the first inning.

Zack Schneider allowed five hits over six innings with one walk and eight strikeouts and had an RBI-single in the top of the sixth inning for Iselin Kennedy.

Outlook: 
South Plainfield returns its entire infield, two thirds of its outfield and three starting pitchers. The Tigers must find a new battery to replace ace Jean Sapini (1.69 ERA, 6-2 REC, 58 IP, 71 K, 21 BB, 14 ER, 41 H) and catcher Jared Marks (.281, 25 H, 12 RBI). A quartet of players are vying to succeed Marks behind the dish. Fleet-footed center fielder Connor Adams (.506 BA, 45 H, 4 2B, 25 R, 7 RBI) returns as the division’s leading hitter. TJ Massaro, who did not commit an error in 49 chances last season, is also back in the outfield. Billy Keane is one of the conference’s best all-around players, finishing last season among the division’s leaders on the mound (2.82 ERA, 2-4 REC, 39.2 IP, 27 K, 7 BB, 16 ER, 36 H) and at the plate (.403 BA, 31 H, 7 2B, 8 R, 11 RBI). Returning starters Mike Marrero (.385 BA, 20 H, 1 2B, 14 R, 10 RBI) and Rob Gonzalez (.326 BA, 28 H, 4 2B, 1 3B, 16 R, 10 RBI) were South Plainfield’s top hitting infielders a year ago.
