2021 GMC BASEBALL: All-Conference and All-Division coaches' selections

No-hitters. Home runs. Catchers throwing out would-be base stealers.

There were some great performances this spring from Greater Middlesex Conference baseball players.

The league's head coaches rewarded them by selecting the All-Conference and All-Division teams.

St. Joseph's Andrew Goldan was named the Baseball Warehouse Pitcher of they Year and Edison slugger Walker Zampella was the Baseball WarehousePlayer of the Year.

2021 Game #26 Raritan 6, South Plainfield 1

 



Hutchins’ two-hitter helps Raritan roll past South Plainfield in CJ2 quarterfinals

Ben Hutchins tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts to help 11th-seeded Raritan take a 6-1 road win over third-seeded South Plainfield in the quarterfinals of the Central Jersey, Group 2 tournament, in South Plainfield.

Raritan (11-9) advances to Tuesday’s semifinal, where it will face either 10th-seeded Holmdel or second-seeded Gov. Livingston.

Hutchins also recorded two hits and two runs in the win. William Tigar tallied two hits and two RBI for the Rockets, while Chris Gonzalez had two hits and one run. Rob Scarola sent in a run off a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.

South Plainfield fell to 20-5-1 on the season.

No. 11 Raritan 6, No. 3 South Plainfield 1


South Plainfield just ran into a hot pitcher.

Ben Hutchins, also the quarterback for Raritan's football team, threw a two-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks as the Tigers were eliminated.

South Plainfield, the GMC White Division champs, fell to 20-5-1.

2021 Game #25 South Plainfield 4, Manasquan 2

Group II

No. 3 South Plainfield 4, No. 14 Manasquan 2

Mitch Dudak threw five shutout innings with five strikeouts, allowing three hits and no walks as South Plainfield advanced.

The Tigers (20-4-1) will host No. 11 Raritan -- which beat No. 6 Delaware Valley 9-3 -- in Saturday's quarterfinal.

Each team scored in the first inning. South Plainfield broke the 2-2 tie with runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Brandon Shine and Troy O'Connor each had a hit and drove in a run, while Nick Loniewski singled and scored twice. Austin Scott and Kennedy Ferguson added hits. 

Vincent Esposito threw the final two innings for South Plainfield.

Mitch Dudak pitched five scoreless innings of relief to lift third-seeded South Plainfield to a 4-2 victory over 14th-seeded Manasquan in the first round of the Central Jersey, Group 2 tournament in South Plainfield.

Dudak, a senior, struck out four, allowing three hits and no walks for South Plainfield (20-4-1), which hosts 11th-seeded Raritan in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Nick Loniewski was 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base and Brandon Shine went 1-for-1 with a walk and a RBI.

Manasquan (6-15) starter Cullen Condon went the distance, allowing two earned runs, seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings. Brett Patten had a walk, run and two stolen bases.
