South Plainfield 10, Monroe 5: Aiden McCarthy homered and was 2-for-3 with two RBIs as South Plainfield clinched third place in the GMC Red Division.

The visiting Tigers (10-8 overall, 8-6 in division) jumped to a 6-1 lead after the third inning. Chris Loniewski singled and drove in three runs and Hunter Ravi (double, two RBIs, two runs) and Ed Budzinski (two runs) had two hits apiece. Gabriel Garcia (two runs) and Dom Massaro (RBI, run) each singled.

Andrew Bena picked up the win allowing four runs (two earned) in five innings.

Tyler Bacon had two RBIs for Monroe (8-10) and Justin Mangano was 2-for-4 (run).

MONROE, NJ — A four-run second inning staked South Plainfield to a big lead and the Tigers went on to a 10-6 baseball victory over Monroe on Tuesday.

Aiden McCarthy went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in for South Plainfield (10-8), which had a 5-0 lead after two innings and 10-1 after the top of the fifth.

Ed Budzinski was 2-forMay 6, 2026, 3:52am-4 with a double and an RBI for the Tigers. Hunter Ravi also hit a double and dro

ve in two runs. Ravi also scored twice.

Chris Loniewski went 1-for-4 with three RBI. Gabriel Garcia scored a pair of runs and went 1-for-3.

Winning pitcher Andrew Bena allowed three hits in five innings. He gave up four runs, but only one of them was earned. Jayden Jimenez allowed a run on two hits in two innings of relief.

Monroe's starting pitcher, Andre Love, is a University of Georgia commit, but South Plainfield scored six runs — five of them earned — in four innings against the Division 1 recruit. Love has 54 strikeouts in 26 ⅔ innings this season for Monroe (8-10).

South Plainfield had lost four games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 9-11 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Monroe Township Falcons by a score of 10-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-3 last Tuesday.

As for Monroe Township, they dropped their record down to 8-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 25, 2023, but that streak is no more.

For Monroe Township's part, they got a good showing from Cameron Kappus, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time Kappus hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April.

At the plate, Niko Antoniades was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Michael Cinque, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

The Tigers complete the series sweep of Monroe by a score of 10-5. Andrew Bena picked up win #2 of the season (5ip 3h) got the job done on the bump & Jay Jimenez tossed the final 2 frames to secure the Tiger victory. Aiden McCarthy (2-3 hr 2rbi) led the offensive charge w a solo blast in the 1st. Eddie Budzinski (2-4 2b rbi) and Chris Loniewski (1-3 3rbi) were clutch & congrats to Hunter Ravi (1-2 2b 2r 2bb) on getting his 1st career varsity hit, 2 bag gapper that plated to the magic 6th run, which is all the Tigers needed to improve to 10-8.

A True Maestro of the Diamond does not get intimidated by whatever is thrown their way. Doesn’t matter if it’s a bus driver rocking out to 80’s metal while dodging tractor trailers, high 80’s fastballs or 80 mph wind gusts…all the same. What matters are the results and Hunter Ravi certainly delivered in the clutch yesterday, driving in the would-be winning run despite mother nature's attempt to thwart anything hit in her direction. For his clutchness, Hunter proved he is a True Maestro of the Diamond.
