Hager homers as Red Bank Catholic defeats South Plainfield
Tyler Hager homered and scored four runs to lead Red Bank Catholic to a 19-9 victory over South Plainfield in South Plainfield.
Luke Lonczak went 4-for-6 with three runs and two stolen bases for Red Bank Catholic (14-4). Hager finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a home run and three walks while also stealing a base.
Drew Cannon added four hits and three RBIs for the Caseys. Aiden Funk went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a walk, while Brayden Harmata hit his first home run of the season and drove in two runs.
Red Bank Catholic scored in every inning except the third and fifth. The Caseys plated four runs in the second inning to take a 6-4 lead, then added three more in the fourth and four in the fifth to pull away. They capped the scoring with a five-run seventh inning.
South Plainfield (11-10) scored four runs in both the second and sixth innings but couldn’t keep pace with Red Bank Catholic’s offense.
Sam French earned the win on the mound for Red Bank Catholic, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on three hits. He struck out five and walked six. Michael Martinez pitched two innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout.
Jake Frankel contributed one hit and three RBIs for the Caseys. Landon Laido went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Miles Nessan finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks.
Luke Scaturro added two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases for Red Bank Catholic.
Red Bank Catholic hosts Toms River North at 3:45 p.m. on May 11. South Plainfield hosts St. Joseph (Met.) on May 11.
