Late charge helps No. 3 St. Joseph (Met.) avoid upset
St. Joseph (Met.), No. 3 in the NJ.com Top 20, rallied late with six runs in the final two frames to take a 9-8 victory over South Plainfield Monday afternoon.
Jack Kern and Mark Giuallusi paced St. Joseph (Met.) (13-3) at the plate as Kern led the team with three RBIs while Giuallusi had a perfect day at the dish, going 4-for-4 with two triples, two singles and a pair of RBIs.
Christian Azcona also drove in a pair of runs off a double while Matt Kosuda added an RBI double to his day as well.
Andrew Goldan earned the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs in two innings of work with a pair of strikeouts.
The trio of Tyler Balent, Ty Ducoff and Luke Bickunas paced South Plainfield (9-7) offensively as each drove in two runs. Ducoff and Bickunas tallied three hits and two doubles apiece with Ashton Donovan going 2-for-3 with a double and a single.

St. Joseph continues to find a way to win GMC games.
The Falcons scored four times in the top of the sixth and twice in the final inning to pull out the Red Division win.
The Falcons (13-3 overall) improved to 11-0 in the division. South Plainfield (9-7, 7-4) entered in second place in the loss column.
Mark Gialluisi led the 14-hit attack by going 4-for-4 with a pair of triples and two RBI.
Jack Kern (3 RBI), Josiah Brown (RBI) and Tyler Delvecchio (3 runs) each had two hits in the win.
Additionally, Matthew Kosuda doubled and drove in a run, Christian Azcona doubled (2 RBI, 2 runs), Connor Drury (2 runs) and Robbie Carvelli each had a hit.
Andre Goldan earned the win in two innings in relief.
For the Tigers, Luke Bickunas and Ty Ducoff each went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Tyler Balent (2 RBI, triple) and Ashton Donovan each had two hits.
Jayden Alvarez (RBI), Zack Robinson (RBI), Julian Irizarry and Brandon Bickunas each had a hit.
