Jean Sapini pitched a seven-hitter allowing only one earned run and one walk while striking out nine to give South Plainfield an upset 5-3 victory over Woodbridge, No. 11 in the NJ.com Top 20, in South Plainfield.

Chris Shine, Robert Gonzalez, Mike Marrero, Connor Adams, and Sapini all tallied an RBI each for the Tigers, which scored four runs in the second and one in the third to go up 5-0 at the time.

Dylan O'Connor, Billy Keane, and Sapini all notched two hits apiece as well.

For the Barrons, Justin Silva went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The Tigers scored four runs in the second inning and winning pitcher Jean Sapini made them stand up with a complete-game effort.

Sapini fanned nine, scattered seven hits, allowed three runs (one earned) and walked one. He threw 107 pitches while improving his personal mark to 4-1. Sapini helped his own cause, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Dylan O’Connor went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for South Plainfield, while teammate Billy Keane singled twice and scored. Chris Shine, Rob Gonzalez and Mike Marrero contributed a hit, a run and an RBI apiece to the win.

Zach Joe and Carlos Marte each went 2-for-4 with a run for the Barrons (13-3), who have dropped three straight.

South Plainfield’s victory coupled with Sayreville’s win over J.F. Kennedy has created a dogfight for first place in the White Division. Woodbridge (7-3 division) leads by one game in the win column over the Tigers and Bombers, who have identical 6-3 division marks.

Woodbridge was outhit 10-7. Michael Medvetz had a single and scored for the Barrons.
