 Senior Day Victory Over Sayreville

While South Plainfield's victory against Sayreville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers never let the Bombers get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Friday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Bombers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

South Plainfield got a great performance from Michael Castagna as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Castagna a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Nick Irizarry was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

South Plainfield's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Sayreville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.

Looking ahead, South Plainfield will head out on the road to take on Spotswood at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 4, the Chargers 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Sayreville, they will welcome Immaculata at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bombers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
