South Plainfield Beats Dayton, 6-1, at Somerset Patriots Stadium

BRIDGEWATER, NJ -- South Plainfield scored three runs in the first inning and went on to a 6-1 baseball victory over Dayton at TD Bank Ballpark, home of the Somerset Patriots, on Tuesday night.

Aiden McCarthy pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and one run before Jayden Jimenez came on to record the save with 1 2/3 hitless innings for South Plainfield.

Patrick Ferguson pitched a complete game for Dayton, allowing just two earned runs in seven innings with three walks and three strikeouts.

Lorenzo Fuscoletti was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in for South Plainfield. Kevin Penny also had two hits in four at-bats.

Nate Goldman tripled and drove in a run for Dayton.

In the final week of the regular season before the start of the North 2, Group 3 playoffs, South Plainfield made two schedule changes. The Tigers' road game against Scotch Plains-Fanwood that had been scheduled for Thursday has been canceled. South Plainfield will host Christian Brothers Academy Friday at 11 a.m.

South Plainfield Victorious

Baseball Recap: South Plainfield Tigers vs. Dayton Bulldogs

South Plainfield won the last time they faced Dayton and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Tigers came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 6-1.

Lorenzo Fuscoletti was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Dom Massaro, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

South Plainfield's victory bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Dayton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.

South Plainfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dayton, they will take on Rahway at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
