South Plainfield 4, Colonia 0

Winning pitcher Jean Sapini fanned eight and allowed three hits in a complete-game shutout.

The Tigers scored all their runs in the home first. Sapini and Mike Marrero each had an RBI single. After two runners were forced out at home, South Plainfield scored on a throwing error. The Tigers’ second run crossed on a wild pitch.

Mike Stanczak singled and doubled for South Plainfield (3-0), while teammate Billy Keane went 2-for-3.

Hard-luck loser Nick Nielson went the distance. He allowed seven hits, fanned one and walk none.

The Patriots left seven on base and did not advance a runner past second.
Nick Michael, Frank Lehmann and Anthony Palmisano had Colonia’s hits.
