Shane O'Connor went 3-for-4 and snapped a 4-4 tie with a two-run single in the fourth as South Plainfield (5-4) rebounded from back-to-back losses to unbeaten Perth Amboy by defeating Immaculata (3-2), No. 12 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, in South Plainfield. Immaculata's Ronnie Sessa went 3-for-3 with two RBI, including an RBI single in the seventh before he was stranded at second base as the potential tying run on a game-ending ground out. Ryan Hutchinson (2-0) went the distance and gave up 10 hits, nine over the first three innings, before shutting down Immaculata until Sessa's single in the seventh. Senior Alex Liszewski, making his first varsity start, went 1-for-1 with a single and two sacrifice bunts and helped preserve the victory with three defensive gems in left field. Tyler Fox led off the game with a home run and Zach Dignam also homered for Immaculata.

O'Connor sparks South Plainfield's win

Senior second baseman Shane O'Connor hit a bases-loaded two-run single to right-center Saturday to spark South Plainfield's 6-5 win over Immaculata.

O'Connor's hit broke a 4-4 tie in the fourth inning and highlighted a four-run rally in the inning.

Senior left fielder Alex Liszewski finished 1-for-1 with two sacrifice bunts for the Tigers and senior righty Ryan Hutchinson threw a complete game, allowing 10 hits - nine in the first three innings — before settling down. Hutchison beat Montgomery last Saturday.

Immaculata's Tyler Fox led off the game with a home run and finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Ronnie Sessa went 3-for-3 with a double and two stolen bases and two RBI.
