Chris Shine hurled a complete-game
no-hitter, striking out 14, as the South Plainfield pitching staff extended its
scoreless streak to 22 innings dating back to a 2-1 loss to Woodbridge.
Over the last three games, during which the Tigers have not allowed a run,
South Plainfield also had a complete-game no-hitter against a strong-hitting
Metuchen club.
Shine walked two and hit a batsman. The last pitch he threw was his 110th
of the game.
The Tigers played small ball to manufacture runs. Mike Stanczak walked,
took second on a sacrifice and scored the game'S first run in the fourth inning
on an infield error.
Catcher Nico Vasquez doubled, took third on a sacrifice and scored on
Connor Adams’ RBI.
South Plainfield improved to 11-9 and has won eight of its last 10.
