South Plainfield 11, Metuchen 0
Rob Gonzalez combined with Brody Donovan
on a seven-inning no-hitter as the Tigers tamed the red-hot bats of the
Bulldogs, who had an eight-game winning streak snapped.
During that winning streak, Metuchen (11-5) scored 88 runs, an average of
11 per game.
Gonzalez hurled five and two thirds innings before reaching the NJSIAA
maximum 110 pitches. He struck out eight, walked five and hit a batsman. Donovan
hurled the final one and a third innings.
Billy Keane went 2-for-3 and Ashwin deGroot went 2-for-3 with a two-run
homer and three RBI. Gonzalez helped his own cause with a two-run homer in the
third when South Plainfield scored six times to build a 7-0 lead.
South Plainfield (10-9) rebounded from a series sweep, having been
outscored 5-2 in back-to-back losses to Woodbridge.
Connor Adams delivered two RBI. Chris Shine scored twice. DeGroot crossed
home three times.
