Jordan Hamberg's three-run double erased a
2-1 deficit in the top of the seventh inning and lifted the No. 14 Tigers to a
quarterfinal round victory.
Billy Keane earned the victory with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
South Plainfield's starting pitcher Rob Gonzalez scattered seven hits and struck
out four over 5 2/3 innings.
Hamberg, who went 3-for-3, gave South Plainfield a 1-0 lead with an RBI
single. Sixth-seeded Colonia scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to
erase the deficit. Frank Lehmann ignited the rally with an RBI single, while
Anthoy DeMao capped it with a run-scoring fielder's choice ground out.
Keane finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.
South Plainfield advanced to the semi-finals, where it will face seventh-seeded Old Bridge, a 1-0 winner over St. Joseph (Met.).

Jordan Hamberg hit a bases clearing three-RBI double to center field in the top of the seventh inning to propel 14th-seeded South Plainfield past sixth-seeded Colonia, 4-2, in the quarterfinals of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament in Colonia.
Chris Shine led-off frame with a walk and Billy Keane then hit a double to put runners at second and third. After an intentional walk to TJ Massaro, Hamberg then hit the eventual game-winning hit.
Hamberg finished 3-for-3 on the day with four RBI while Keane went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. He also earned the win with 1 1/3 shutout innings of relief on the mound, giving up just one hit.
Frank Lehmann went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the way for the Patriots.
With the win, South Plainfield will face seventh-seeded Old Bridge in the semifinals on Saturday at Middlesex County College.
