NJ Baseball: St. Joseph awarded top seed for Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament

Two-time and defending champion St. Joseph, No. 1 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, has been awarded the top seed for the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament.
South Plainfield, ranked No. 5, was seeded second and, coincidentally, will play host to St. Joseph in a regular-season game Thursday at Jost Field.
Monroe, ranked No. 7, was seeded third with East Brunswick seeded fourth.
The tournament begins with five play-in games Thursday, followed by the preliminary round on Saturday and the first round on Monday, all at the field of the higher seed. The quarterfinals will be played as two double-headers at Community Park in North Brunswick on Wednesday.
The semifinals and championship game will both be staged at East Brunswick Tech, with the semifinals on May 15 and the final on May 29.

The two-time defending champion St. Joseph High School baseball team earned the top seed for the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday with five play-in round games.

St. Joseph, which has won four GMCT titles since 2004, will host a first-round game Monday against the winner of Saturday’s preliminary-round game between No.‚17 Perth Amboy and No.‚16 North Brunswick.


The top 10 seeds received byes into the fist round. In addition to St. Joseph, they are No.‚2 South Plainfield, No.‚3 Monroe, No.‚4 East Brunswick, No.‚5 J.F. Kennedy, No.‚6 South Brunswick, No.‚7 Middlesex, No.‚8 South Amboy, No.‚9 Old Bridge and No.‚10 Bishop Ahr.
While Old Bridge will play at South Amboy and Bishop Ahr will play at Middlesex, first-round matchups for the remaining top 10 seeds are contingent upon the results of play-in round and preliminary round games.


Following are the GMCT pairings for the play-in round and preliminary-round games, all of which will be contested at the site of the highest seed:

The quarterfinals will be played May 12 at Community Park in North Brunswick. The semifinals and finals will be contested May 15 and May 29, respectively, at East Brunswick Tech.
Cardinal McCarrick and Highland Park elected not to participate in the tournament.
