Carlos Ruiz went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and Mark Tomei went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored for South Plainfield (21-2), No. 1 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, in Warren. Ruiz returned to action after being forced out of Thursday's Greater Middlesex Conference quarterfinal-round loss to Bishop Ahr when he was struck by a ball in the face during infield practice, as South Plainfield had its 18-game winning streak snapped. Kyle Taylor drove in two runs and joined Richard Hart in going 2-for-3 for Watchung Hills (7-15).

Designated hitter Carlos Ruiz went 3-for-4, including a home run, and scored three runs scored to lead the South Plainfield High School baseball team to a 10-6 win over Watchung Hills Saturday.Second baseman Rob Pasternak finished 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored for the Tigers (21-2). Mark Tomei went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI for South Plainfield.Kyle Hughes (2-0) picked up the win, allowing one run in five innings and striking out five.
