Zack Robinson had a triple, double, and three RBI to help give top-seeded South Plainfield, No. 13 in the NJ.com Top 20, a 6-2 victory over eighth-seeded Cranford in the quarterfinal round of the North 2, Group 3 tournament in South Plainfield.
Kevin Penny threw 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six for South Plainfield (21-5-1).
South Plainfield plated six runs in the third inning, and that is all it needed to get the win.
Brayden Fry went 3-for-4 and Sean Riley had an RBI for Cranford (13-11).
Top-seeded South Plainfield will face fifth-seeded Colonia in the semifinal round.

Zack Robinson doubled, tripled and drove in three runs to continue his hot hitting as South Plainfield advanced to host Colonia in Friday’s semifinals.
Dom Massaro, Nick Irizarry and Dan Kapsch each singled and scored in the win for the Tigers (21-5-1), which put up six runs in the bottom of the third. Ryan Balent also had a hit.
Kevin Penny earned the win by allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts. Chase Donovan finished with 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
