GMC Tournament semifinals set: The semifinals of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament are set. Top-seeded South Plainfield will be playing fifth-seeded Edison, while third-seeded Old Bridge will be playing 10th-seeded Sayreville.
Both games will take place at East Brunswick Magnet on Saturday.
South Plainfield makes incredible comeback: Speaking of the GMC Tournament, South Plainfield, the No. 13 team in the NJ.com Top 20, made an incredible comeback in a quarterfinal win over South Brunswick. Trailing 9-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, South Plainfield scored six runs in frame, coming away with a stunning 10-9 win to clinch its berth in the semifinals.
The win was also South Plainfield’s 11 consecutive victory, and arguably none was more dramatic than the latest one.
GMC can’t-miss games
Saturday, May 11: Sayreville vs. Old Bridge at East Brunswick Magnet, 12: The first semifinal of the GMC Tournament semis, Old Bridge takes on Sayreville. Old Bridge had to rally twice to defeat North Brunswick in the quarterfinals, while Sayreville upset second-seeded Woodbridge in the quarterfinals. Saturday’s meeting will be the first between the two teams this season.
Saturday, May 11: Edison vs. No. 13 South Plainfield at East Brunswick Magnet, 2:30: The second semifinal of the GMC Tournament, South Plainfield, coming off its dramatic comeback against South Brunswick, takes on Edison, which defeated Middlesex. South Plainfield will look to keep it rolling and might have to contend with Edison senior pitcher Jaxon Appelman, a Coastal Carolina commit, who might be in line to draw the start.
